Attacking the Fear of Failure at Its Roots

Do you find that the fear of failure hinders your professional progress? And does your fear of failure and of the unknown prohibit you from taking risks and seizing better opportunities?

To accelerate your progress, you must learn how to control your thoughts and attack your fear of failure at its roots. And you also need to understand the best way to respond to failure when it comes your way.

This month, we are going to tackle the third thought-control tactic: becoming failure-proof.

Here’s an important FACT you should be aware of: You will surely meet with one or more temporary failures before you finally meet with success. And when those failures overtake you, you’ll think that the easiest and most logical thing to do is QUIT—and that is exactly what most people do.

However, most successful people report that their greatest success came right after their greatest failure. Failure is tricky: it’s not final, it’s not fatal, and it usually hits you when success is just around the corner.

The best thing about failure is that it is a great teacher. When you fail, you’re given a lesson that will make you stronger and more focused, and that will help you achieve much better results the next time around.

You have two possible responses when failure hits you:

1. Follow the crowd and quit—that’s the easy response, but it leads to a poor life.
2. Be failure-proof, stand up again, learn the lesson, and move forward—that’s the difficult response, but it leads to great success.

The second response is more difficult because failure has a huge impact on your emotions; it’s very hard to recover quickly from an unexpected defeat. To do so, you’ll need to be resilient, have a clear purpose, and feel a burning desire to succeed—only then will you be able to pick yourself up and move forward with even more belief in yourself and faith in the authenticity of your dreams.

Failing today doesn’t mean that you’re going to fail tomorrow. The good news is that today doesn’t last forever; it will soon end and slip into the past. Tomorrow, on the other hand, is always in front of you; it always offers hope to those who are persistent enough to continue growing and striving to reach their dreams.

As a professional, you know that your career progress depends on your powerful vision of a better future for yourself and your loved ones.

Let’s take a quick lesson from the “Instructions of Amenemopet”, a popular papyrus of ancient Egyptian wisdom written by Amenemope, who was said to be the pharaoh of the 21st Dynasty named Usimare Amenemope.

Amenemope said, “Do not go to bed fearing tomorrow, for when day breaks what is tomorrow? Do not say, I am without fault, nor try to seek out trouble. Be strong in your heart, make your mind firm.”

We all fail. No one can live without failure because, as Amenemope implied, no one can be without fault. So instead of being afraid of failure, attack it at its roots. When failure comes, be strong in your heart, make your mind firm and learn the lessons given to you. That’s all you need to do.

Go out today and liberate your uniqueness. Cut off the chains of fear and enjoy the freedom of the countless opportunities that surround you. Be brave and be strong. Failure will not kill you; it can only make you stronger—but only if you understand how to take control of it.

Until next month, remember that you can easily become failure-proof if you search for the lessons hidden in every failure. You’ll see that your greatest success will soon follow.

To be continued…
